1. They’re a great way to see everything in one place.
  2. It helps to avoid forgetting something important.
  3. If you write one for long enough you push past the obvious points and get to things you may not have thought of.
  4. It’s fun to cross things off when they’re done. It takes a load off, and you can see your progress.
  5. It stinks to see something on a list for a long time, but that at least lets you know that that item is something you’re stuck on. That’s the first step to dealing with a difficult task.
  6. They start to add up, so as a list gets longer you start to ask, will I even be able to do all of this?
  7. What gets confusing is when you have multiple lists that overlap, so it’s worth asking: which list should I put this item on? Or do I put it on both? Putting it on both is clutter, and makes it look like you have more to do than you think, but what if you put it on one list and never get to it, but if it had been on the other list you would have gotten to it?
  8. As if you get to the bottom of any list.
  9. But that’s what’s good about lists. You can just make another one! Take out all the crossed out items and leave only the ones left.
  10. That does start to get tough because my therapist said I don’t take enough time appreciating what I have accomplished, and only dwell on what I have left to do.
  11. I haven’t been to therapy in a year and a half, ever since I moved and would have to take the bus for an hour to keep going to the same place.
  12. I’ve had a psychiatrist and no therapist, and I’ve had a therapist and no psychiatrist. There was a brief period when I had both but my therapist was a man which for some reason didn’t work. I don’t know why, I didn’t have anyone to talk to about it.
  13. I was prescribed Adderall for ADHD, but I would get too distracted to remember to take it regularly, and when I was moving I found a box that had a few unfinished bottles of low dosage Adderall. That’s been great since I haven’t had access to weed in about three months. Weed works better for me than Adderall, but I’m not complaining.
  14. I’m complaining a little bit. It’s just tough to repeatedly refresh my lists. They grow and grow and grow, and to shrink them I have to accomplish things. Accomplishing things is one of my only weaknesses.
  15. Writing lists are a great way to feel like you’re getting something done.
